A 28-year-youth arrested for allegedly entering the President’s House and taking photographs while sitting on the President’s chair was ordered to be remanded till August 5 by Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect Hashan Hasaranga, a resident of Samanpuragama was ordered to be remanded after being produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage by the Colombo Crimes Division.
The CCD alleged that the suspect was arrested for causing damages to the property belonging to the President’s House on 9th of July.
Senior Counsel Shiraz Noordeen appearing for the suspect moved Court that his client be released on bail citing trespassing charges against the suspect cannot be maintained because thousands of protesters had entered the President’s House on this particular day.
The Magistrate ordered the police to conduct further investigations into the matter.
