Sri Lankans with dual citizenship must obtain permission from the Registrar General when marrying foreigners, Registrar General of the Registrar General’s Department P.S.P. Abeywardena said.
He said that two formalities must be completed in order to get such permission.
Accordingly, the permission of the Registrar General will be granted on the basis that the aspirant proves that they are free from being issued a warrant from any legal authority and also should not be suffering from any communicable disease.
In the past 10 months, 1,703 Sri Lankans were married to foreigners with the consent of the Registrar General, and most of them were married to citizens living in European countries, Abeywardena said.
