A massive protest against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the government was held yesterday in Talawakelle town with the participation of the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
The protestors said they were in a predicament due to the spiraling cost of living and the shortage of gas, fuel, essential consumer goods including milk powder and medicine and constant power cuts. They accused the government of failing to resolve the burning issues affecting the people.
Thousands of people including estate workers carrying posters, banners and placards and shouting slogans against the government paraded to the Talawakelle New Town Hall ground and staged protest. The Opposition Leader addressed the gathering.
The protest resulted in a heavy traffic congestion in Talawakelle town for hours.
SJB Parliamentarians Palani Digambaran, V. Radhakrishnan, Mano Ganeshan, Udaya Kumar and Electoral Organiser for Nuwara Eliya Asoka Sepala had joined the protest.
