Members who were appointed to the Committe on Public Enterprises (COPE) and Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) were announced by Deputy Speaker Ranjith Siyambalapitiya yesterday.
Accordingly, Mahinda Amaraweera, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Rohitha Abeygunawardhane, Sarath Weerasekara, Jagath Pushpakumara, D.V. Chanaka, Harsha De Silva, Jayantha Samaraweera, Indika Anurudda, Nalaka Godahewa, Rauf Hakeem, Eran Wickramaratne, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Susil Premjayantha, S.M. Marikkar, Premanath C Dolawatte, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Nalin Bandara, Madura Vithanage, Sagara Kariyawasam, Charitha Herath and S. Rasamanickam were appointed to the COPE.
Udaya Gammanpila, Duminda Dissanayake, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Sudarshini Fernandopulle, Shehan Semasinghe, Prasanna Ranaweera, Tissa Attanayake, Tissa Vitharana, Harin Fernando, Niroshan Perera, Ashok Abeysinghe, Buddika Pathirana, Kader Masthan, Mohomad Muzammil, Hesha Vithanage, Upul Galappatti, B.Y.G. Rathnasiri, Weerasumana Weerasinghe Ranjith Bandara, Harini Amarasuriya and S. Shritharan were appointed to the COPA.
Committees in Parliament including COPE and COPA bacame defunct after the prorogation of Parliament.
Meanwhile, SLPP MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa was reappointed as the Chairman of Public Finance committee at the second session of the ninth Parliament yesterday.
He was appointed chairman when it was convened at committee room number 8 at the parliamentary complex yesterday.
The appointment was made despite the SJB claiming that a member from the opposition has to be appointed chairman of the committee as per the standing orders. This was highlighted by MP Harsha de Silva in the House last morning.
