The Mihintale ancient Anula Cheithiya conservation project commenced with the distinguished participation and guidance of the Mahanayake of Asgiriya Chapter Venerable Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera and Anunayake of the Malwatta Chapter Venerable Dimbulkumbure Sri Wimaladhamma Thera.
Venerable Sanghamitta Thera who brought the sapling of Sri Maha Bodi had founded the Bhikkuni order by ordaining 500 women including Queen Anula at the historic site.
The history of the Anula Cheithiya runs as far back as the 2nd century BC.
The restoration project funded by the founder and Vice Chancellor of the Nagananda International Buddhist University in Taiwan and Chief Sanghanayake of Taiwan Venerable Bodagama Chandima Thera and coordinated by Chief Incumbent of Mihintale Rajamaha Vihara Venerable Walawahengunawewe Dhammarathana Thera.
The Civil Security Department will provide labour to the project implemented under the supervision of the Department of Archaeology.
State Minister Vidura Wickremanayake, Commissioner General of Archaeology Professor Anura Manatunga, Governor, North Central Province Maheepala Herath and Director General of the Civil Security Department Major General N.R. Lamahewage, were present at the occasion.
