With reference to yesterday’s (05) Daily Mirror article titled ‘President seeks KDU VC’s resignation after Daily Mirror exposure’, the Ministry of Defence has sent the following statement.
“Aforementioned article baselessly reveals that Maj. Gen. Peiris had tendered his resignation after the President had sought based on a previous article published in the same newspaper.”
“In fact, Maj. Gen. Peiris had tendered his resignation based on a personal reason. He tendered his resignation on his own accord and was not compelled to step down for any reason. At the time of his resignation, he also had more time to offer his service to the KDU’s betterment,” it added.
