A minor tremor was felt in the Lunugala area off Passara last evening, a senior official of the Seismic Data and Tsunami Alert Centre (SDTAC) said.

He said the tremor to a magnitude between 1.8 and 2.0 on the Richter scale was reported at around 4.39 this evening.

SDTAC said the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has reported to them that several residents in the Lunugala area had felt the tremor and informed them. “The tremor was recorded under weak signal category at the Pallekele, Mahakanadarawa, Hakmana and Buddangala Seismic stations.

Therefore, the exact location of the tremor couldn’t be verified and no damages were reported and it lasted for a few seconds,” the SDTAC official said.

The investigations into the current tremor and the series of minor tremors felt recently in Badulla and Kandy are still being investigated.
