Most complaints against Police involve law non-enforcement, abuse of power

Most number of complaints received by the National Police Commission against the police in 2023 were related to the non-enforcement of laws, abuse of power and acting with partiality, according to a report by the National Audit Office.

They account for 33, 30 and 18 per cent of the total complaints respectively. There were 2,448 complaints received from the public, and 561 of them were looked into and dispensed with. Investigations into complaints remained relatively low in the Uva Province.
