A motion is to be brought in to expel Samagi Jana  Balawegaya (SJB) MP Chaminda Wijesiri for misbehaving in Parliament,  State Minister of Justice Anuradha Jayaratne said yesterday.

The State Minister said the matter would be discussed soon.

“We cannot tolerate this kind of behaviour by the MPs. He  was referring to the abusive language used by MP Wijesiri on Assistant  Secretary General of Parliament Harsha Abeyratne. MP. Mr. Abeyratne  during his tenure as the state counsel had obtained an indictment order  against Wijesiri for allegedly assaulting a DIG and his driver. The MP  is having a grudge against him as a result,” he said.

“We should expel the MPs who misbehave by bringing a motion,” he said.

MP Dilan Perera also stressed action against MPs who abuse  those who are outside Parliament. “We have seen MPs abusing outsiders,  including judicial officers during the last few days. I propose setting  up an ethics committee so that civilians and others could lodge  complaints against MPs,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said the  Parliament Standards Bill will be introduced soon. “Provisions are  provided in this Bill to expel MPs for misconduct,” he said.
