It is expected that some MPs from the Opposition including Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) would vote in favour of the motion to remove Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Ratnayake as it is taken up for debate today.

A government spokesman who did not wish to be named said a few Members of SJB and other opposition groups are expected to vote in favour of the motion. “Some members have had discussions with the government top brass, but we will get to know on their final stand at the time of voting,” a cabinet Minister who did not wish to be named told Daily Mirror.
Meanwhile, all government MPs who are abroad have been asked to return to the island immediately and to be present in Parliament at the time of voting.

In another development, SJB MP Thushara questioned as to whether the gold which MP Ali Sabri Raheem tried to smuggle was to be used to woo MPs to vote in favour of the motion to remove Ratnayake.
