National Building and Research Organisation has warned that the danger created by erosion in a part of the hill near the tunnel in Pahala Kadugannawa could worsen if the prevailing inclement weather continued.
However, Director General of the NBRO Engr. Asiri Karunaratne told the media during his inspection of the endangered area yesterday that traffic could be allowed on a single lane once the rains ceased.
He pointed out that storm -water flowing down the hill had seeped into an area of the hill, had endangered it with further erosion due to storm- water flowing down the hill and seeping through clefts. Engr. Karunaratne said the clefts should be sealed and water that seeped in should be drained out. However Kegalle District Secretary Mahinda S.Weerasuriya said the road was closed for traffic on the advice of the National Building and Research Institute.
