Amidst an alarming number of child abuse cases being reported across the country, the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) yesterday stated that they are struggling to move forward with their new policies towards child protection due to lack of budget allocations.

NCPA Chairman, Chanaka Udayakumara Amarasinghe made this statement when the Daily Mirror inquired from him regarding any follow ups to the 2020 Special Audit Report on the performance of NCPA.

He stated that they have created a five year action plan and policy document but are still waiting for confirmation for its procurement from the Finance Ministry.

“We have sent several reminders to the Finance Ministry. Since we can’t wait too long, we have started discussing methods how to move forward with our new policies through non-monetary methods,” he said.

In the recent past, there has been an increasing number of child abuse cases reported across Sri Lanka including the recent incident where a teenage schoolgirl was sexually abused by her grandfather, uncle and father.
