The National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) is awaiting dosiers containing details for the registration of two more vaccines in Sri Lanka - Sinovac and Johnson and Johnson - against COVID-19 in addition to the present three vaccines being given AstraZeneca, Sputnik V and Sinopharm, an official said yesterday.
Johnson and Johnson’s is a single shot vaccine manufactured in the United States whereas Sinovac is another Chinese vaccine developed by Sinovac Biotech.
NMRA Chairman Dr. Rajitha Wijewantha told Daily Mirror that his office was yet to get details to consider these two vaccines for approval for emergency use in the country.
He said the NMRA experts committee would consider them once details related to the manufacturers, pharmacological data and clinical trials were available.
Meanwhile, Sinovac Biotech is considering partnership with Sri Lanka for manufacturing its vaccine product here.
