In response to recent reports suggesting a potential wave of pharmacy closures across Sri Lanka due to alleged rejections of licence renewal applications, the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) clarified that these reports are inaccurate.

In a statement, NMRA Chairperson Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama explained that the misleading report was falsely attributed to the All Island Private Pharmaceutical Owners Association.

The NMRA further emphasised that no abrupt changes have been made to the pharmacy licence approval process.

“The established criteria for obtaining and renewing licences remain unchanged, ensuring that pharmacies can continue operations without a hitch,” he added.
