National Thawheed Jam’aat (NTJ) is responsible for killing two policemen in Vavunativu, Batticaloa despite the widely held belief that it was the handiwork of the LTTE, police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.

The police had extracted information to this effect from the driver of NTJ leader Mohamed Zahran, who was arrested recently.

The two policemen were killed and their weapons snatched away last year. One such weapon was recovered from the Ninthavur house which was used by the NTJ  to carry out their suicide bombings.  The other weapon was found in Wanathawilluwa. The two policemen, identified as are Niroshan Indika Prasanna and Ganesh Dinesh were killed in Vavunativu on November 30, 2018 while they were on duty.

It was believed at that time they were killed in retaliation for their involvement in dismantling decorations put up for the LTTE’s Maaveer Day celebration.
