The carcass of a hill-country leopard killed in a wire trap was recovered by the wildlife conservators in Nallathanniya wildlife office yesterday. Range Wildlife Conservator Prabhash Karunatilleka said the animal had died several days ago and that its carcass was decomposed.
He said he would submit a report in this regard to the Hatton magistrate and initiate investigations to arrest the individual who laid the trap. The official further said that the wildlife conservators in Nallathanniya had on May 15 conducted an inspection to find any wire traps laid by poachers and driven away a fishing cat frequenting the area into a nearby forest.
