Director General of the Department of Archaeology Prof. Anura Manathunga said a step was being taken to establish a National Hero Secretariat to protect the national heritages of Sri Lanka.
Addressing the 204th death anniversary commemoration of Monarawila Keppetipola Disawa and Madugalle Uda Gabada Nilame who gave leadership to the Uva - Wellassa rebellion in 1818, said the relevant draft legislation would be presented in Parliament soon.
He pointed out the need to record Sri Lanka’s history precisely including research data and said the proposed National Hero Secretariat would fulfill this need.
Central Province Governor Lalith U Gamage, Parliamentarian and Chairman of the District Coordinating Committee Nalaka Bandara Kottegoda , District Secretary Thejani Tilakaratne, and Mayor of Matale Sandanam Prakash were present on the occasion.
