Nedungamuwe Raja, the tusker entrusted with carrying the casket containing the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha at the historic Kandy Perahera for the 13th time, will be escorted to reach Kandy on Wednesday. The tusker will traverse a distance of 10 kilometres.
Owner of Nedungamuwe Raja Dr. Harsha Dharmavijeya said the tusker would break journey at intervals to spend the night at pre arranged temples. He said 67-year -old Raja is considered the largest tusker living in Asia.
Dr.Dharmavijeya said the tusker would be escorted to Kandy using by-roads to avoid contact with crowds due to the pandemic.
