Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday announced that he endorsed the certificate on the Petroleum Products (Special Provisions) (Amendment) Bill.

The purpose of this legislation is to make provisions for the granting of licences to new licensees and the selection of parties for the importation and distribution of petroleum products. The Bill also provides for the removal of the monopoly which the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation enjoyed on marketing aviation fuel.

Accordingly, this amended Act shall come into force from today (21) as the Petroleum Products (Special Provisions) (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 2022.
