Government MP Nimal Lansa, who is now involved in the formation of a new political entity to back President Ranil Wickremesinghe, lashed out at Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP) charging that the party was acting with double standards on the implementation of the 13th Amendment.

Issuing a statement, he said the SLPP had no moral right to object to it since its leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, as the then President, agreed to devolve power even beyond the 13th Amendment.
“To bring about economic prosperity and unity, there should be reconciliation among people of all the communities,” he said.

He said the country owes an explanation from SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam as to why he was opposed to the 13th Amendment despite his leader taking a position otherwise.
He also challenged the SLPP to name its presidential candidate if possible.
