Following reports that businessman Thirukumar Nadesan and his wife Nirupama Rajapaksa had fled the country to an undisclosed location following the allegations levelled against them in the Pandora Papers, Nadesan told Daily Mirror yesterday he and his wife were very much in Sri Lanka and had no intention of leaving.
“We have not run away to any other country and we do not intend to do so. I have requested for an independent investigation into the allegations, so why should my wife and I leave? All these allegations are baseless,” Nadesan said.
He further said he had been summoned to the Bribery Commission today and would appear to address the allegations levelled against him.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has summoned Thirukumar Nadesan to appear before the Commission today to record a statement with regard to allegations revealed in the Pandora Papers.
An official at the Commission said Nadesan had been summoned to record a statement after they launched an investigation following the directive of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Accordingly, the Bribery Commission has appointed a special investigation team to probe into the Sri Lankans who were listed in the Pandora leaks over allegations that former parliamentarian Nirupama Rajapaksa and her husband Nadesan maintained accounts/assets, offshore.
