The No Confidence Motion moved by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya against Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila is an unwise decision made by the SJB without realising the political changes, National Peoples’ Power MP- Anura Kumara Dissanayake said yesterday.

He told Parliament that the no confidence motion was a political decision and called it a media show.  He said that the move  had only united the groups within the Government, which had started to criticise the Government for several of its decisions.

“We noticed that several Government groups such as Dayasiri Jayasekara and Vasudeva Nanayakkara were vociferously criticising  the Government. However, this no confidence motion had united them to protect the Government and the Energy Minister,” he said.

MP- Dissanayake said that despite the fact, they would support the no confidence motion on the grounds that Minister Gammanpila failed to pass down the benefit of the fuel price reduction in the World Market by utilising the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund and his failure to find alternatives to prevent the increase in the fuel price.

“The Minister has been unable to provide facts to the Cost of Living Committee which met to discuss the fuel price increase and find alternatives,” he said.
