Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has decided not to change electricity tariff for six months and to go for a revision by mid this year, it was revealed yesterday.

This was revealed in the tariff revision proposal which was handed over to Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL) by the CEB.

The proposal signed by CEB General Manager K. G. R. F. Comester said the decision was taken to maintain the current tariff levels considering the importance of maintaining the estimated surplus.

“A surplus of Rs 2,334 million has been estimated for 2025 warranting a tariff reduction of 1.02 per cent. Any variation of the estimate whether an excess or shortfall, will be accounted for the bulk supply transaction account (BSTA) and considered in the next tariff revision. In the light of this and to ensure financial and operational stability while avoiding potential risks to the reliability of power supply, CEB proposed to maintain the prevailing tariff structure for the first six months of 2025,” the CEB said.
