State Minister of Cooperative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna assured that the prices of wheat flour and bakery products would not be increased.
A statement from his office said the Bakery Owners’ Association informed that the prices of bakery products had to be increased due to the decision of Serendib Flour Mills Pvt Ltd to increase the price of wheat flour by Rs 18 a kilo without the proper approval of the Consumer Affairs Authority.
The statement said, “While taking legal proceedings by the Consumer Affairs Authority, the representatives of Serendib Flour Mills Pvt Ltd were called for a discussion regarding the decision to increase prices and after deliberations, the Serendib Flour Mills Pvt Ltd confirmed to Lasantha Alagiyawanna, State Minister of Cooperative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection yesterday that the price of wheat flour will not be increased.
Further, the Prima Ceylon Pvt Ltd has not increased prices of wheat flour recently”.
