Director General of Agriculture Ajantha De Silva who refuted speculations about scarcities of consumer goods during the festive season, said however a slight increase in prices would be experienced due to the prevailing dollar crisis.
He told the media that the harvesting season was going on and that a minute decline in the yield would not affect the supply since the requirements could be met with existing stocks of rice from the previous harvests and imported stocks. He stressed that the public would not experience any shortage of rice and other essential consumer goods including green gram and cowpea during the festive season.
