Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce for One Country - One Law Venerable Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara Thera said any successive government since independence had not implemented the policy of one law for the country and that the present government has taken steps to make it a reality.

He told the media after meeting the people to consult their views at the Thondaman Vocational Centre that he entertained the proposals of the people in the Nuwara Eliya district to resolve the issues affecting them. He said the main issues affecting them were landlessness and lack of facilities for education.

“The Task Force would pay particular attention to them. The present predicament of the country is mainly due to implementing the policies of political parties instead of a national policy.  The people believe that all communities should enjoy equal rights and development opportunities. With this in view it is imperative that a legal system introduced by the foreign rulers should be replaced with a new system in keeping with the requirements of the country. The people made proposals to achieve this target. We are heading for a disastrous situation in the future. The people stressed the need to implement strict laws to protect the national assets,”  the Thera said.
