One lane in the Pahala Kadugannawa area on the Colombo-Kandy main road will be opened after 12.00pm today, Kegalle District Secretary Mahinda S. Weerasooriya said.
He told the Daily Mirror that the decision was taken following recommendations given by the RDA and the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) this evening.
However, the road will be open for both heavy and light vehicles from today afternoon, he said. Several inspections and tests were carried out by the RDA and NBRO officials at the site.
They said there was no danger in opening the road for vehicles. However, the decision will be reviewed considering the weather conditions, Weerasooriya added.
The road was closed due to possible heavy showers and earth slips in that area. The landslide threat was detected yesterday near the 98th Km post on the Colombo-Kandy main road.
