An individual of Egodauyana in Moratuwa died in a police shooting on Thursday night (10) during a raid carried out by the police Special Task Force (STF) on a house in the Egodauyana National Housing Scheme.
Egodauyana Police said the deceased Dulan Sameera Sampath alias “Abba” was a suspect who had a criminal record for his involvement in murders and contraband trades and that he was a close confidante of the drug trafficker known as “Panadura Salindu´ now hiding in a foreign country.
They said that several cases against him were pending in the High Court and that he had been on remand for stabbing Salindu’s mistress and released recently on bail. Exchange of fire during the raid had resulted in the killing of the suspect in police shooting, with minor injuries to a STF officer. During the raid the STF had arrested seven suspects facing charges of drug peddling and one of them was in possession of a locally made hand grenade.
Police had stepped up security in the area and at the Panadura Base Hospital where the body of the deceased was lying and the injured STF officer was under treatment. OIC Egodauyana Police, Inspector of Police Anil Masakorala is conducting further investigations on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police Mount Lavinia Division, Mangala Dehideniya.
