Investigations have revealed that 435 out of 632 individuals who received the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccination at the Galle District Health Services Office on June 5 and 7 were from several other districts.
Director of Health Services Southern Province on Galle Magistrate’s order has reported to police that only 196 individuals including 79 police officers from the Galle District had received the vaccination.
The DHS has reported that 425 individuals from the Western Province, nine from the Matara District and one from the Nuwara Eliya District were those from other areas who had received the vaccination. Galle Division Crime Investigation Unit that probed the public complaints in this regard had reported to court that several individuals from the Western Province had arrived through the southern expressway and received the vaccination.
The police had sought a court order on the Southern Province DHS to forward to them a list of names of individuals who had received the vaccinations, the stock of vaccines issued, the balance returned. The police have also requested details of vehicles which arrived through the Pinnaduwa exit on June 5th and 7th from the Director of the Southern Expressway.
Police said that they had already identified the vehicles and their owners who had arrived through the Pinnaduwa exit.
A police team under OIC Crime Investigation Unit CI Dinesh Nishantha is conducting further investigations on the instructions of SSP Galle Division Dulshan Nagahawatta.
