More than 50 residents and staff of an elder’s home in Mulgampola have been tested COVID-19 positive, a notice put out by its board of trustees said yesterday.
“We have around 100 residents and support staff in our elders’ home at Mulgampola in Kandy. A majority of them have been tested COVID-19 positive.
The premises have been sealed off by the health officers,” the notice put out by the trustees said.
“The regular donor who supplies food items is unable to deliver as it is not possible to cook the meals at the elder’s home because members of the kitchen staff have also tested positive. We have therefore made arrangements to provide meals through an external supplier at a daily cost of Rs.40,000. We are compelled to seek public assistance as we are faced with an unforeseen difficult situation,” the notice added.
One of the staff members when contacted by Daily Mirror confirmed the situation in the home.
