Sri Lanka have reported over 8,000 cases of Dengue for the year 2022 out of which 7,702 cases were reported in the month of January.

Accordingly, a total 8,303 Dengue cases have been so far reported while 301 cases have been recorded for the month of February.

When compared to the number of cases reported in the month of January last year, it is almost four times of cases. Only 2,122 Dengue patients were detected last January.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, Dr. Shilanthi Seneviratne from the Dengue Control Unit said although the threat of Dengue is on the wane compared to the latter part of last year, the number of cases would remain at a moderate level in the next couple of months as well.

“The highest number of cases are recorded from the Western Province and it is 42 per cent of the total cases,” she said.  Besides, she invited people to allocate time to destroy all mosquito breeding places surrounding their neighbourhood as it had also become one of the major concerns.
