It was revealed in parliament that more than Rs. 2.5 billion is paid annually as rental for vehicles acquired by government agencies.
This was revealed by the Finance Ministry in reply to a question raised by SLPP MP Kokila Gunawardene on vehicles acquired by public institutions.
It was revealed that 4,427 vehicles have been acquired by the public institutions on rental basis and that Rs. 2,562 million is paid as annual rent for the said vehicles.
According to a question raised by MP Gunawardene on the number of running condition vehicles in public institutions, the ministry said some 69,121 vehicles are in running condition as of March 1, 2024.
