Provincial Council elections will be held once the new constitution comes into effect, a government Minister told Parliament yesterday.
Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge who was speaking during the budget debate said the provincial council elections will be held once the new constitution comes into effect.
“It is not possible to hold the provincial council elections now; it will be held once the new constitution comes into effect. We will see who will win the elections then,” the Minister said. Minister Lokuge said this while challenging the opposition to try and win an election.
“You are also responsible for the destruction of the UNP and converting it into a weak party that cannot win a single seat in Parliament,” the Minister told the SJB MPs who were present in the House at that time.
“You are waiting for power cuts and fuel shortages, but we have plans to avoid such things,” he said.
