While claiming that the final report of the Presidential Commission on the Easter Sunday attacks had not revealed the mastermind behind the attacks, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said yesterday they could not accept the report as a complete report.
JVP MP Vijitha Herath told a news conference that even though the report has revealed the causes for the attacks, actions to prevent such an attack and the influence of extremist groups in the attack, it has failed to reveal the mastermind and the invisible hand behind the attacks.
“Several individuals such as former president Maithripala Sirisena and former IGP had been held responsible for being unable to prevent the attack, negligence and carelessness. But it has failed to reveal who the real operative of the attack is, whether there was an influence of a foreign or local organisation on the attack,” he said.
Mr. Herath said the responsibility of the Commission was to reveal the true respondent of the attack and added that the whole country was expecting the commission to reveal it.
“As the true respondent is not revealed, he is still at large. The main responsibility of the commission was to reveal the true respondent. A commission of this nature should be complete. There is nothing new in this report. People were aware that the Maithri - Ranil government was responsible for the attack. What was important was to reveal the true conspirator based on facts revealed by various parties,” he said.
He said the balance of the report was questionable as Maithri and Ranil had been treated differently. “The report has not recommended any action against former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. He is accused only for negligence. He is the second authority of the previous government. There is something hidden here. This is a mere report which has hidden the truth,” he said. He said it was the responsibility of the government to take immediate action against the responsible persons as recommended by the report.
