Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader former Minister Udaya Gammanpila said it is still feared whether the government will postpone the elections to the local authorities despite nominations being called.  Speaking to the press, Gammanpila said the government’s henchmen had gone to court seeking an order to hold back elections.

He said the government has made yet another attempt to postpone elections.

He said there is a bill placed on the Order Book of Parliament for enactment to reserve 25 percent of slots of youth candidates.

“If such a bill is presented, it will be challenged in court. Then, the government can propose an amendment to the bill during the committee stage of Parliament seeking the postponement of the election pending,” he said.

He urged the government to go before people at an election without playing various gimmicks.
