Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has cut down the expenditures at the Prime Minister’s Office from the monthly average of Rs.120 million to Rs.60 million owing to the ongoing economic crisis, officials from the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Senior officials told Daily Mirror that on average, the Prime Minister’s Office incurred a monthly expenditure of Rs.120 million but as soon as Wickremesinghe took office, he cut down on the capital expenditures and reduced the expenses to Rs.60 million per month.

Wickremesinghe is also yet to move into Temple Trees, the official residence of the Prime Minister and presently functions at the PM’s Office at Flower Road.

Prior to the swearing-in of Wickremesinghe, the Prime Minister’s office had spent on average Rs. 120 million per month for the first 4 months of the year. Under the new Premier this amount has been reduced by 50%. This was achieved through the reductions in capital expenditure.
