Parliament House Committee is to meet today to decide on the increase of the price of lunch for the MPs, parliamentary sources said.

A senior official from the internal audit department in the House told Daily Mirror that the decision to increase the price of lunch will be made today.  A sum of Rs 200 is being charged currently from each MP for his or her lunch.
He said the amount charged from staff has also been increased. A sum of Rs 1,100 was charged from a member of Executive Staff per month earlier, while a sum of Rs 1,000 was charged from non-executive higher grade staff and Rs 500 from non-executive lower grade staff. “This has been increased to Rs 2,500, Rs 2,000, and Rs 750 per month respectively,” he said.   In addition, the price of a lunch packet in the public canteen has been increased to Rs 200 from Rs 100.   It was also confirmed that everyone, including the MPs, will be provided with a subsidised meal from this week.

Assistant Secretary-General of Parliament Tikiri Jayatileke when contacted by Daily Mirror confirmed the price increase and the changes.
