General Secretary of the SLFP, former Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara said yesterday that after four days of hollow rhetoric, Parliament has failed to find a single solution to the current economic and social mayhem prevalent in the country.

That was why the SLFP has decided to talk to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and urge him to put into action, proposals forwarded to him by the party.

The fuel obtained using the Indian credit line will be exhausted by June. Drugs and food purchased from India will also be sufficient only for a few months. In the meantime, the tourism industry that has shown a resurgence in the first three months of this year has also collapsed as a result of the instable situation of the country. The power cut and shortage of raw material has affected the export sector in a very negative manner. How long are we to go on like this ? We need stability restored in the country.

Find a minimum of 3 billion dollars to survive until the end of 2022 with no shortages, no power cuts and no price hikes. The SLFP proposes to meet these goals under an all party administration formed for a limited period of time until a general election is held, .Jayasekara emphasized.

“There was a coterie of top officials in the SLPP government who disrupted and sabotaged the national economy in the country. Former Finance Secretary, Dr. P.B. Jayasundara held back all the letters and instructions sent to the President by the Monetary Board of the Central Bank and prevented the government from seeking IMF assistance,” he charged.

The country has to be salvaged from the current catastrophe sooner than later as the situation is exacerbating by the day.

The only solution the SLFP could see without violating the Constitutional provisions and democracy is the formation of an all party interim administration with no participation of Rajapaksas and start negotiations immediately with the IMF and other global financial agencies and friendly countries, he said.
