The joint resolution to remove Sri Lanka Cricket Commitee was unanimously passed by Parliament yesterday amidst a tensed situation.  A tensed situation popped up when the opposition wanted a vote while the ruling party argued that there is no necessity as the opposition moved it while it was seconded by the government.  Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena put the question before the House and inquired whether it agrees with the resolution. Chief Government Whip Prasanna Ranatunga said there is no necessity for a vote as both sides agree with it.

The Speaker therefore adjourned the sessions after announcing that the resolution has been passed. The House became noisy with jeering by the opposition members.

The debate came to an end with more allegations against SLC. Minister of Sports Roshan Ransainghe alleged that SLC has transferred more than million dollars which it has received as broadcasting fees for various tours. “SLC had asked Central Bank permission to start up accounts overseas some time ago. However Central Bank has refused but SLC had gone ahead and had opened up accounts overseas,” the minister said.

“It has to be determined whether the person who is called Tanesh Dias who was arrested in Australia some years ago for drug trafficking is the personal secretary of SLC chief Shammi Silva. Personal Secretary of Shammi Silva has the same name,” he added.
