Participate in Jana Sabhas President tells Aragalaya members

While stating that the members of the Aragalaya have the opportunity to make confessions and join the process of developing the nation, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said the Aragalaya members are invited to join Jana Sabhas which will be set up soon. 


President Wickremesinghe made these remarks while having a zoom discussion with a group of youth during the weekend. 


“The youth who participated in the Aragalaya have the opportunity of making a confession and joining us to revive the nation. We also hope to provide legal provisions for the Youth Parliament soon and also we intend to set up Jana Sabhas soon. Therefore we invite the youth to join  in these institutions,” the President said. 

“I am ready to have a dialogue with all sections of Aragalaya including those who have been misled by it,” he added. 


Also he said brain drain in the country is increasing speedily. “One has to think whether it is fair to leave the nation at this difficult time,” he said. 


Referring to the fuel crisis, he said discussions are on to resolve the issue that have arisen with regard to purchase fuel from Russia. “Many countries including Europe are to face an issue when  winter season approaches as the demand is to increase,” he said in this regard. 


The president said plans have been set to convert Sri Lanka into a developed nation by 2048.   “The entrepreneurship development had taken a back seat in Sri Lanka since 1960 with increased state involvement. Sri Lanka become very competitive  after 1977 with the introduction of the open economy. However Sri Lanka had not progressed since that time. 


The development of Trincomalee oil tank farm has been at a standstill for decades. We would not have been able to  provide any concessions with regard to fuel if not for the LIOC.  Many businesses have gone bankrupt today. It is important to safeguard the banking system. Also it is essential to make the economy more competitive and to strengthen exports.
