Public Security Minister Rear Admiral (Rtd) Sarath Weerasekera claiming that public discipline is deteriorating, stressed the need for those above 18 to be given some training in military camps to instil discipline.
He made these remarks at an event to mark the opening of new police stations in Panadura, Alubomulla and Hirana in the Kalutara District.
“When I said in Parliament that those above 18 years of age should be given military training, I was vilified. Some people dubbed such training as a way for creating militants,” he said. Minister Weerasekera said military camps were the best places to give disciplinary training. “Any course or training that enhances personality, can gradually create a disciplined society,” the minister said.
