The registrar and two other senior officials on staff of the Peradeniya University were interdicted with immediate effect by the University administration. The other two officers were the Works Engineer and the Works Superintendent.
A spokesman for the university administration said the three officers were indicted on the charge of misusing the workers and the machinery and equipment of the university works department to attend to the repairs of the registrar’s house during the duty hours without prior approval.
He said the officers concerned had been appointed recently and were on their probation period. He said a team of government auditors had visited the scene while work was going on and reported it to the university administration, and that the three officers were interdicted on an inquiry held after they submitted their explanation.
