The Norton Bridge Police arrested a person for the alleged rape of 13-year-old daughter of his sister, who stood surety to him when he was similarly accused of rape of a nine-year-old girl. His sister stood surety to the bail bond in a previous case against him for the rape of a nine-year-old girl.
The 29-year-old suspect and the victim were both residents of the Norton Bridge area.
Police said in the previous incident he had fled the area after raping a nine-year-old girl and impersonated a businessman in Mawanella area. However, the Norton Bridge Police conducting investigations arrested him from his hideout and produced him before the Hatton Magistrate who remanded him.
After being in remand for five months, he was released under strict bail conditions. His sister had stood surety to the bail bond. The suspect who reported to police on Sunday morning (30) as ordered by court, had visited his sister and raped her 13-year-old daughter and fled from the area.
OIC Norton Bridge Police Chief Inspector Kapila Wijeratne said the suspect was arrested within hours of the incident and the victim admitted to Dikoya Base Hospital for medical examination.
The suspect was to be produced before Hatton Magistrate yesterday.
OIC Women and Children’s Bureau CI Kamani, SI Madduma Bandara, WPC 12382 Shanika, WPC 13089 Dilmi, Sergeant 72735 Harainm PC 74574 Nuwan had conducted investigations on the instructions of OIC Norton Bridge Police Kapila Wijeratne and ASP Jayasinghe and arrested the suspect.
