Steps have been taken to give COVID-19 vaccines to Piliyandala and Kesbewa areas where cases have begun to surge and have reported the highest number of cases in Colombo District, a government medical officer of the area said yesterday.

AMOH of the area Dr. Dayan Jayatilaka told Daily Mirror that vaccines were given to officers at divisional secretariat offices, police stations and business establishments in the two areas.

“We have planned to conduct 400 PCR tests in the area and completed around 200 as of yesterday afternoon. Results of the tests are due today,” he said while highlighting that cases are surging in Piliyandala and Kesbewa areas.   As per the official data which was put out by the COVID centre, 180 cases each were reported in Piliyandaala and Kesbewa. This was the highest among all areas in the Colombo District. Around 131 cases were reported within Colombo City. Some 57 cases were reported from Homagama and 28 from Avissawella.
The total number of cases in Colombo District has been 755.
