The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has arrested a man who has given a note on a piece of paper to the security deployed at the Opposition Leader’s office mentioning a bomb attack on Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) rally in Colombo.

Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that investigations revealed that the man was a mentally disordered suspect.

The chief security officer of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa lodged a complaint with Cinnamon Garden Police on November 9 over the suspicious note mentioning an attack during the SJB rally.

According to the complaint, a man had given a note written on a piece of paper to a security officer at the main entrance. The notice claimed that a bomb attack will take place at the SJB’s rally in Colombo on November 16.

The spokesman said that investigation into the complaint was handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division by the IGP.
Accordingly, the CCD along with the Cinnamon Garden Police arrested the suspect who had handed over the notice.  Police also recovered a number of similar notices written on papers from the suspect’s bag.

SSP Thalduwa said further investigations are underway.
