The United Postal Trade Unions Front (UPTUF) has decided to launch a 48-hour token strike from Sunday over several demands, including a salary increase of Rs. 20,000 for all postal workers starting from the January payroll.

UPTUF convener Chinthaka Bandara told the Daily Mirror that the token strike will be launched at 4 pm on Sunday (10) and continue until midnight on Tuesday (12).

The UPTUF demands to immediately stop the decision taken by the government to sell the buildings where the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya post offices are located, to provide immediate solutions for the administration issues in the postal department and demands a salary increase of Rs. 20,000 for all postal workers starting in January.

Accordingly, 653 postal offices, 3,410 sub-post officers and nearly 27,000 control offices will strike for 48 hours, Bandara said.
