Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had never asked him to step down and he was sure would never do so.
He said the government would take steps to rebuild the country even by obtaining foreign aid.
“The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed to provide us with required funds when we explained to them the situation in our country. Finance Minister Ali Sabry worked in that regard. I discussed with the officials who left for the IMF talks. The IMF has kept faith in us. However, we have to adhere to some of their conditions. We need to follow them and move forward,” he said.
The Premier said this during a meeting with members of the Local Bodies at Temple Trees this morning.
