President Ranil Wickremesinghe by virtue of the powers vested in him by article 70 of the constitution prorogued Parliament with effect from midnight yesterday ( July 28 2022) till August 3 2022.
The next session of the House will commence on August 3 2022 as per the gazette notification issued to this effect.
Committees of the House including Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) and Public Finance Committee will become defunct as a result of prorogation. Heads and members will have to be appointed as and when the House meets once again as per the procedure.
