Government has been successful in getting the Indian supplier to reduce the price of Nano nitrogen liquid fertiliser by $ 2.4 a kilo, Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage told Parliament yesterday.
Minister Aluthgamage said, he, the President and State Minister Sashindra Rajapaksa along with officials of his ministry had been able to get the price of Nano Nitrogen fertliser, reduced. “We were able to convince the supplier to reduce the price, thereby saving Rs 1.7 billion,” the Minister said.
He said the shipment of organic fertiliser which was imported from China had been sent back. “We requested the supplier to get a fresh license if we are to accept the consignment,” he said.
“We are ready for a public debate on the fertiliser issue with anyone from the opposition,” he also said.
Meanwhile the Minister said prices of vegetables have gone up in price in an unusual manner because of heavy rains which the Central Province has experienced during the last few days. There have been heavy rains in Nuwara Eliya during the last 22 days except for two days,” he said.
