The Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals State Ministry agreed to revise the price of imported medicines that are under control in proportion to the change in dollar.
State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana told the Daily Mirror that gazette notifications will be issued while revising the prices.
He said it is “like applying a pricing formula to medicines, and it will help to change the imported medicine prices according to the fluctuation witnessed in the US dollar.” The new price revisions will apply to medicines that are currently sold under controlled prices.
However, the changes according to the dollar fluctuation, the price revisions will be announced today or tomorrow for the items which are being sold under controlled price.
“The last price revision on medicines were made when the US dollar rate was at Rs.194. The price revision will be made proportionate to the dollar fluctuation from Rs.194 to date,” he said.
